TETRA: Say no to an unsafe technologyfind out more information about TETRA

Reply to David Varney, Chairman, mmO2 plc

Well, we know that the O2 Airwave/Police defence is that we need a safe, secure communications system, and we wholeheartedly agree. But if the system that brings safety also brings danger: well, it’s just the wrong system.

Dear David

I appreciate your response, and will pass it on in full.

We have absolutely no argument with the police on this matter, and all agree they need an excellent and reliable communications system. That does not not mean that TETRA masts are not the cause of the outbreaks of ill health associated with them, and does not excuse stonewalling by O2 Airwave when these things are reported.

In such circumstances, where ill health is widely reported, O2 is NOT making every effort to work with us. These reports are ignored and regarded as hysteria. If we do not raise the issue, you say nothing is reported. If we do report it, you say we are fuelling hysteria through the media. Either way, O2 has shown no regard at all for the ill health issues around the country. (We shall let the planning fiasco go for the sake of this conversation, and I understand that the situation can be difficult for you.)

As regards your assurance that Airwave conducts a thorough consultative process with local community representatives, this is absolutely untrue. Where O2 representative are invited by local concern groups (usually after the event and in an atmosphere of protest) this has ceased to be any kind of consultation. Not once has O2 Airwave offered to help us find out (through impartial third parties) even whether there is a statistical link between the health outbreaks and TETRA masts.

Let's just focus: something is certainly happening. We suggest it is TETRA for good reason. We have to determine the true cause.

Since you know my every move, I suggest you seek to understand our concerns through reading all of the correspondence on our website. Please also read on the site why the intensity/guidelines argument is a myth; your Communications Manager, Peter Fitch, has so far been unable to reply on the issue.

I am not a born protester. I am primarily a sufferer, and rightly angry that no-one seems interested. We are not saying O2 is acting illegally, just irresponsibly.

yours sincerely

Andy
