Dear Mr Davidson

TETRA Mast at Worthing Football Club, Woodside Road

Thank you for your letter of 6 March 2004 on the above subject.

As you will know, there has been a good deal of research carried out on the possible effects of TETRA transmissions.

At the moment the Government’s view is that there are no proven health effects associated with TETRA, although it is acknowledged that some uncertainties remain.

A report is being prepared for the consideration of this Council’s Executive, which will acknowledge that there are some uncertainties still to resolve on a national basis.

It is likely that the executive will want to press the Government for early action to conclude further research.

I was interested to note that you have written to Dr Tahzib whose statistical information may of course be of assistance in the future.

I do not think, at this stage, that the Council could do anything by way of its own scientific investigations which would add to the debate. However, there is the issue of cumulative effect and the Office of Communications have been written to, suggesting that they carry out an audit of the Woodside Road site. This matter will be followed up.

Yours sincerely,

Haydn Smith
Assistant Director (Health and Housing Services)
