Letter from Dr Diana Grice, Medical Director and Director of Public Health, Surrey and Sussex Strategic Health Authority

Dear Mr Davidson

Thank you for your recent letter dated 3rd April 2004 raising your concerns about the health impact of TETRA masts. I have also received copies of the letters of correspondence from your GP, Dr Clarke and from the Director of Public Health, Dr Farhang Tahzib.

My assessment of the situation is that Dr Tahzib has sought advice from the Surrey Sussex Health Protection Unit which is part of the national organisation responsible for providing expert public health support and advice on health protection issues. In his letter he has requested that they make contact with Dr Clarke directly to advise him on the situation, and what further measures need to be taken to protect the health of the public.

The role of the Strategic Health Authority is to ensure that PCTs properly discharge their public health duties, and so I will ask my colleague, Dr Liz Saunders to follow up this situation to ensure that the expert advice from the Health Protection Agency has been obtained and followed up in your circumstances. I will ask her to let you know the outcome.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Diana Grice
