Bognor Regis: the mast is finally turned off

Just when we thought it would never happen, the mast on Reynolds Depository in Bognor Centre, was finally turned off on the morning of 26 May 2004.

Engineers from O2 Airwave arrived at the Reynolds building, to be met by local campaigners Mandee Keeling and Paul Wells, accompanied by an independent radio engineer. Leaving nothing to chance, they wanted to witness the actual turning off. Three times previously O2 Airwave has lied to residents in Bognor, to campaigners and indeed to Dominic Reynolds, MD and unwilling/unwitting landlord to this TETRA mast, saying that it had definitely been turned off, when it clearly had not.

Proper celebration would have permitted photographs of the moment, but true to form and the spirit of secrecy, Airwave engineers were forbidden to allow such mysterious things as open cabinets and switches to be recorded!

Eight switches that kept the transmitters going for all these months were flicked one by one, and as the last went off, the physical feeling of relief as headaches were suddenly lifted brought tears and euphoria. Such is the effect of TETRA on people who are sensitive, they know when masts are on or off, turned up or turned down, without the use of electronic instruments. This is the part of the experience that demonstrates so clearly that this is not a psychosomatic response, but a direct physical influence of the pulsed microwaves.

Tomorrow, 27 May, the cabinets will be removed (we are told) to Horsham Telecomms, thus bringing to an assured end the nightmare of living with TETRA.

And O2 Airwave? They are already on the lookout for a new site for TETRA, not deliberately so that they can make a misery of other people’s lives, but in clear disregard for them. Bognor and its environs are on equal lookout. The battle over recognising TETRA as a harmful technology goes on.
