Dear Mr Sitch

Whilst I have already contacted Ofcom on the matter, I felt it right also to report to you that the TETRA base station at the Worthing FC football ground, Woodside Road, Worthing, which was activated on 26 February, is causing severe TV interference, notably on ITV.

As informed residents we are aware that mmO2 is operating within guidelines and to its licence, in terms of its operating frequencies. We are also aware that living in an area of poor reception we cannot receive TV signals without aerial amplifiers. Your transmission equipment is causing the interference, and whilst mmO2 has hitherto publicly declared that the fault lies in the quality of our domestic equipment, we feel strongly that it is for mmO2 to rectify the situation.

How would you like to respond?

regards

Andy Davidson

Hi Andy

Peter Sitch has passed on your e-mail to me (Peter works in the South West region).

I am sorry you have been experiencing television interference and understand this has been investigated by Ofcom. You will therefore have been made aware that the Airwave site at Worhting Football Club has been investigated and has been proved to be operating correctly and at the frequencies allocated to us by the Ofcom. This indicates that the Airwave transmitter is not at fault. We cannot accept liability for something we are not legally liable for.

02 Airwave are obliged to comply with Ofcom regulations which state that resolving deficiencies within the viewer's television installation is outside 02 Airwave's responsibility and the RA's statutory responsibility for regulating the radio spectrum.

I hope this clarifies the situation for you.

Regards

Sue Moore

Thanks Sue

No, no clarification at all I'm afraid.

I knew the answer already. But it's hardly the point is it? Airwave knows that the system causes interference, especially in poor TV signal strength areas. It isn't my receiving equipment that's causing the interference, merely allowing it, and yes, I've looked up the technical stuff, so I know about second harmonics of the pulsed frequency and undiscriminating aerial amplifier bandwidth and all that. Your antennae have been erected in the midst of our homes (where we all have pre-existing commercial standard equipment), with that knowledge, and I think absolutely no-one at Airwave is in the slightest bit surprised. So now everyone washes their hands and every little old lady next door must fork out £80 for a filter and someone to fit it? Whatever you do don't call it fair or right or socially acceptable.

Sorry, but if I blow smoke in your face you have a right to complain.

I'm tired; very tired. I have not been able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time since the day your equipment was turned on. Bad luck that I seem to be sensitive to your radiation.

Andy
